Often considered one of the most attractive members of the Crenicichla genus, Crenicichla Lenticulata Pike or Lenticulata Pike Cichlids, are found in Rio Negro but also dwell in other places of the Amazon basin in South America. They live in the tropical and subtropical rivers of South America. They are large and robust species with a lifespan of ten years.
Given their size, up to 16”+ as adults, Crenicichla Lenticulata Pike require a tank size of around 200 Gallons minimum. They mostly swim in the middle and bottom of the tank. The species are territorial so choosing tank mates is challenging. It is better to keep them with tankmates of comparable sizes or larger. They must not be small enough to fit into the mouths of Crenicichla Lenticulata Pike. Due to their territorial nature, caution should be taken when keeping them with a similar kind since they are likely to fight to compete for territory.
Crenicichla Lenticulata Pike are carnivorous fish. They will do well with a meaty or protein rich diet of things like tilapia, shrimp, worms, or carnivore pellets.
